“I’ve been in this shop for 18 years. It was very hard, when we opened the shop, I wasn’t going to school or anything at the beginning, I couldn’t speak any English. When we came, people would say ‘why do you want to open the shop?’ and I would tell them ‘ for alterations’ and they would say ‘oh thank god!’ Because before that, they have to go into the city. I’m happy here, I talk with the people. I can’t stay at home, I need to be around people. Here, I forget everything that’s troubling me. Here, everyone is saying ‘hi Mary, hi Mary’ – the people here are beautiful. People tell me thank you for that one, thank you for this one. We fix it cheaply for the people. They’re happy, I’m happy.”
